I've been helping my grandparents move to a new house. This process has involved a whole lot of packing that is almost immediately followed by unpacking...knick-knacks, plates, glasses, etc. Now, some packing material is, well, less-than-clean and some of it can be downright dirty. The thought of eating from a dish or drinking from a glass that's been surrounded by grubby paper kind of makes me cringe. Of course, we certainly don't want to add washing dishes to our already long moving to-do list.
Our solution? Pack in towels. You've got to move the towels anyway; why not use their cushiony softness to cleanly protect your breakables?

This is an excellent idea for local intown moves with people that you know helping you move carefully. BUT if you are moving across the country with a moving company and you are packing yourself. Buy the unprint clean packing paper and lots of it and use it all. That is the only way things will not get broken. I have moved a lot with 2 large cross country moves and learned this the hard way. The only box that had something broken in the last move(Chattanooga to Sioux Falls) was the one packed with towels. :(
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing your experience LaDora...duly noted. Yes, we were moving my grandparents just a few miles and with careful hands :)
